Answers to commonly asked questions

For some, the functional health approach is a whole new world. I hope this helps answer some of the important questions you might have.

  • What is functional health?

Functional health sits outside the traditional disease/sickness care model. Functional means exactly that, how the critical systems of your body are functioning.

We know that when our systems aren't functioning optimally, there are downstream effects that can show up on the surface as symptoms. In functional health, we don't chase symptoms as they are not always a reliable indicator of where the dysfunction lays.

We do uncover healing opportunities using functional labs, following a tried-and-true process to reset the body, allowing it to restore balance.

  • Can I learn more about the tests?

Yes! Head over to my instagram where I have more in-depth videos on each test and how they accelerate your healing journey.

  • Will insurance cover this?

Unfortunately, functional practitioners (and many functional doctors) must operate outside the limitations of insurance. Although functional tests are not diagnostic, some HSA and FSA accounts will cover them for re-imbursement.

  • Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, payment plans are available when signing up through practice better.

  • I have xyz diagnoses, can you help?

FDNs do not diagnose or treat any medical disease. We do help you uncover imbalances and loss of function in the critical systems of your body. The goal is to restore our systems back to healthy function. Instead of asking, what is the best supplement for _________? We ask, why is the body functioning this way? How can I support it returning to normal function?

  • Will I have to change my diet?

Diet has one of the most meaningful and cumulative effects on our health. However, I do not subscribe to any particular 'diet'. My goal is to get you eating way a that you can take with you everywhere. This means prioritizing blood sugar balanced and nutrient dense meals from organic, whole foods. I'll share diet guidance specific to your results and health goals.

I also leverage food sensitivity testing with clients. This is not a list of food you can never eat again! Foods you react to are additional stressors we can peel off the body while you heal your digestive and immune system.

I do ask that clients be open to removing gluten, dairy and refined sugars during their protocol. This can accelerate your healing greatly.

  • I just want the tests.

This is actually my favorite question. And I get it. For years I was unwilling to seek answers in functional health.

FDNs spend on average 8-16 hours investigating your history, symptoms, labs and lifestyle to create a custom protocol (instead of interpreting everything on the spot, while you're sitting in the room). We also collaborate with mentors and clinical advisors.

Lab results are meaningless unless matched to a person - your unique history and lifestyle. Ordering a solo test and googling the results is a surefire way to end up confused.

From one former DIY healther to another, if you're game, this is worth it.

  • Is there a secret to health?

I don't believe there is a secret sauce to health, elixir of life, treasure trove of immunity to aging. Brilliant marketing would have you believe that all you need is the next popular diet (carnivore?) or the next newly formulated supplement.

I believe in foundations of health that align us with ancestral ways of being, natural remedies and expertly selected labs to help you get to your root causes.

Once we know where we stand, we know where to go. Using lab testing, we can get data to know if what we're doing is working for our body. Or if we need to pivot.

  • What's your personal philosophy on health?

I know it can be odd to work so personally with someone you barely know. If you resonate with these ideas, I think we'll very much enjoy working together.

    • Personalized always. No one-size-fits-all.
    • No fear mongering for the sake of sales.
    • Food first. Supplements second.
    • Find harmony with our biology instead of fight against it.
    • Health is a journey, not an overnight sensation.
    • Prioritizing our health can be fullfilling, meaningful and self-esteem building.

Personally I do not track macros or calories, nor do I teach or advocate for this. Folks whose primary goal is weight loss would be better suited with another practitioner. I focus on self-acceptance and self-worth. If weight loss is a natural byproduct of prioritizing your health, and that's a goal of yours, awesome.

  • I'm outside the US, can we work together?

Yes. Most tests can be shipped overseas and the same goes for supplements. I am also happy to refer you to an FDN that works within your area. Exceptions are NY, RI and NJ, as there are strict rules around testing. Reach out directly if this is you!

  • What happens when we stop working together?

In our last session we'll recap all the progress you've made so far, where you'd like to continue to heal and paths you can take to get there.

For existing clients, I offer a discounted membership with advanced re-testing included so you can continue to track your progress and keep peeling the layers back of your health.

  • Why do you use recordings for results?

Delivering live education to clients typically leaves them overwhelmed with no time for questions. Recorded education allows me to spend the time necessary for each result and for the client to pause, rewind and digest. A follow up session allows for a live debrief regarding the results and recommendations.
